John is Citizen of the Year

Oakley resident John Bonnar was declared "West Fife Citizen of the Year" at a Fife Council ceremony in Torryburn Community Centre.

After proposing the formal vote of thanks, local councillor William Walker (left), said: "It is great to see John Bonnar (right) receiving this recognition for all the voluntary work he has done in the community over the years.

John now deserves to sit back just a little a bathe in a touch of adulation as voted for by many of his fellow citizens through West Fife Villages.

"John has been a stalwart of many organisations and social events for years - and long may he continue doing this!

"In this sometimes selfish age, he is a good example to us all.

"It was also good to see Mrs Jenny Morgan of Culross receive the runner-up award.

" To say that 90-years-young Jenny is the "Queen of Jam and Preserve Making in West Fife" is no exaggeration, plus, the magnificent state in which she maintains the exterior of her historic house in the village must make it one of the most photographed in Fife!".

Councillor Walker concluded: "With 16-year-old Danielle Connell of Blairhall scooping the "Young Citizen of the Year" award from many nominations, it is clear that lots of people, young and old, are still prepared and happy to do that bit more for the community at large and are great examples to everyone".
