West Fife Villages' calendar launched
A very well attended special launch ceremony was held on Friday 30th September in the Conference Room of Dunfermline Carnegie Library.
This event was held to present the West Fife Villages 2012 Calendar.
The calendar was launched by Mr Alistair Bruce (below), Chair of Dunfermline and West Fife Local Tourism Association and Vice Chair of Fife Tourism Partnership. Alistair Bruce is also Managing Director of the Keavil House Hotel.
Alistair praised the initiative of the West Fife Villages Planning Group for the production of a high quality calendar that aimed to raise the profile of the West Fife villages and encourage tourism.
Alistair highlighted the various groups in the Dunfermline area who have the similar objective of encouraging and stimulating tourism in the area.
Bill Walker MSP was a special guest at the event. Bill, also a councillor for the West Fife villages has supported the project from its conception. We were also pleased to welcome Helen Law to the event.
The scenes for the calendar were selected at a competition held at this years West Fife Villages Art & Photographic Exhibition, held at Saline.
This competition was sponsored by the West Fife Villages Community Planning Group. Artists and photographers had been invited to submit paintings and photographs of West Fife village scenes from which 13 scenes would be selected for inclusion in a 2012 calendar. As a result, 50 entries were submitted and the judging took place during the Exhibition.
The two judges, well known local artist Liz Harvey and Dave Scott, the editor of the West Fife Villages Guide, had a hard time choosing the winners but they got there in the end. The selected scenes range from Limekilns to Kincardine together with a number from inland West Fife villages.
A painting of Culross by Mrs Caroline Howden and a photograph of Kincardine Bridge in winter, taken by Mr Mr Alexander Stocks, were judged the best entries.
Other artists and photographers whose work was selected for the calendar were Mr D Hatton, Mrs S Carribine, Mrs P. Ball, Mr D Higson, Mr J. Crabbie and Mr D. Murray.
The calendar is on sale at the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and at the branch libraries in the West Fife villages.
It is also available in a number of Dunfermline shops and local West Fife village shops and post offices.
Stocks of the calendar are available on request from John Crane, tele:- 01383 852698, E-mail johnrobertcrane@ic24.net
The planning for the next West Wife Villages Art & Photographic Exhibition is in hand and our first meeting will take place in the Saline Community Centre at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 25th October. We might even consider a 2013 calendar! |
